Local sales tax rate changes in Louisiana, October 2018

A handful of local sales and use tax rate changes took effect on October 1, 2018, in Louisiana. 

In Ascension Parish, there’s a rate decrease in East Ascension within the Gonzales Conway Annexed Area. The combined local rate dropped to 5.5% from 6.5%, for a total sales tax rate of 9.95%.

There’s a new economic development district in Calcasieu Parish as of October 1. Lakefront Economic Development District has a combined local rate of 6.75% and a total rate of 11.2%.

Finally, the town portion of the local sales tax in Duson, which straddles Acadia and Lafayette parishes, increased from 2% to 3%. As of October 1, 2018, the combined local sales tax rate in Duson, Lafayette Parish, is 4%, and the total sales tax rate for Duson, Lafayette Parish, is 8.45%.

The combined local sales tax rate in Duson, Acadia Parish, is 5.25%, and the total sales tax rate is 9.7%. However, only 2% of the 5.25% combined local rate is remitted to Lafayette Parish, while the remaining 3.25% local sales tax goes to Acadia Parish.
