Amazon to Close Kansas Distribution Center
- October 15, 2014 | Ryan O'Donnell
The Wichita Eagle has reported Amazon will close its 915,000-square-foot distribution warehouse located north of Coffeyville, KS. The facility first opened in April, 1999 and is scheduled to close its doors in February, 2015.
One of southeast Kansas’ largest employers, Amazon turned down a multimillion-dollar incentive package aimed at getting them to stay.
Amazon is constantly evaluating its warehouse and distribution strategy to better position the company to offer fast shipping and near immediate order turnaround. Part of that strategy involves choosing locations near the largest US cities.
Hundreds of employees will be effected by the move and potentially every Amazon shopper located in Kansas as the closure of the warehouse directly impacts Amazon’s physical presence within Kansas.
Kansas Department of Revenue spokeswoman Jeannine Koranda reported a review of Amazon’s presence within the state would need to take place citing potential nexus creating activities such as “property, employees, agents or other representatives in the state.”
The Coffeyville warehouse is located at 2654 N US Highway 169, Coffeyville, KS 67337. Need an Amazon warehouse address? Check out our list.
