We are looking for a Software Developer In Test. The Engineering team is building Avalara's next generation of SaaS software to be part of every VAT calculation in the world. Software with 5 nines of reliability. Software which is part of a sales checkout process so it's got to be fast and accurate. That requires systems with massive scale and redundancy by design with functional excellence. It also requires top notch APIs and a SOA design for maintainability and extensibility.

In this role, you will be responsible for functional, performance, integration, reliability and subsequent automation testing to ensure world class quality of Avalara products. You will be the voice of the customer within the organization, demanding zero defects, five nine's reliability and ease of use.

Job Duties:


  • Engage in continuous automated and manual testing activity throughout agile development iterations to ensure zero defects.
  • Participate in iteration planning, providing input on required testing tasks, process, and associated effort for the selected user stories.
  • Create and manage bug reports, ensuring they are clearly communicated to the team and addressed in a timely, thorough, and satisfactory manner.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on software usability and functionality.
  • Investigate customer problems referred by technical support.
  • Be a passionate voice of the customer within the development organization.
  • Be a key participant in creating a Quality First and Zero Defects culture.
  • Support software releases.
  • Engage in team process improvement.

    • Qualifications:


  • Significant demonstrable related work experience including writing test cases, test plans and code coverage.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.
  • A strong understanding of test methodologies and software engineering by testing one or more products throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Strong QA skills: planning, exploratory testing, defect reporting and troubleshooting.
  • Experience building automation in Browser and RESTful and SOAP web services.
  • Experience using various tools such as jMeter, Selenium, WebDriver, SOAPUI.
  • Experience with GitHub, JIRA, Confluence.
  • Experience using Jenkins for CI, CT.
  • Experience in performance, load and reliability engineering.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and flexibility to work collaboratively with others in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, collaboration, follow-up and self-motivation.
  • Experience of creating CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working with JIRA and Confluence.
  • Willingness to dive in and get to the bottom of a problem.
  • Outstanding problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Strong knowledge of .NET framework.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server/ any other RDBMS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional demeanour, team player, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of source control tools such as GitLab.
  • Proven ability to make things happen and meet commitments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and thrive in a fast paced environment.
