Our Global Benefits Team works together collaboratively, bringing our collective experience together to create a compelling employment value proposition and a great culture at Avalara. In support of our efforts, we are looking for a Program Manager to join our global Benefits team. You will be responsible for the strategic oversight and administration of the global programs for the Avalara's locations and will be instrumental in the development of short-and long-term global benefits strategies and competitive, cost-effective health, welfare and retirement plans. In addition, this role will provide compliance expertise, partnering with the regional and local HR team to ensure that we are current with new and changing HR policies and practices.

This role can be remote in the United States.

Key Responsibilities


  • The individual must collect and configure requirements and test and validate processes as a part of global implementation and or special projects
  • Coordinate with other departments to gather necessary data to support the implementation including business requirements
  • Ensures Workday systems contain accurate data and are configured to support plan and business requirements.
  • Collaborate with Tech team on business requirements, data needs and data conversion actions
  • Assists with the design, development, implementation, and administration of global benefit programs such as EAP, BTA/BTM, Wellbeing, Global Leave, etc.,
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the company's group health and wellbeing programs globally.
  • Assist as needed with the operation of the group benefit programs including group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending plan, 401(k) and the defined benefit pension plans.
  • Manages participation in area and industry specific benefit surveys to stay current with external trends that will attract, retain, and motivate the talent needed to drive our business priorities.
  • Analyzes benefit programs, policies, and practices to ensure they are compliant, competitive, cost effective, and align with company philosophy and support business objectives.
  • Ensures global benefit plans meet regulatory compliance and governance/audit requirements; consults with legal resources and stays abreast of developing legislation and its potential impact.
  • Continuously monitors the market, partners with our insurance broker and other vendors to drive the design and management of benefit programs.
  • Maintains relationships with 3rd party providers and ensures data exchanges are monitored and executed with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Partners with other global benefit team members to develop and deliver short- and long-term recommendations to ensure global benefit programs meet the needs of a diverse workforce, while maintaining compliance with all legal requirements.
  • Oversees wellbeing strategies for health improvement across the organization.
  • Revamp and manage employee communications strategy and deployment while ensuring consistency across regions
  • Develops processes and procedures for leave administration and educating HRBPs and people managers on best practices to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state leave regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years' experience in benefit programs and/or employee benefit administration
  • 3+ years of Workday experience
  • Management of global programs including BTA/BTM, EAP, Wellbeing, Global Leaves and Communication Strategy
  • Knowledge al all pertinent U.S. federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Worker's Compensation, Medicare, HIPAA, and social security and DOL requirement
  • Advanced knowledge of MSOffice
  • Ability to focus on and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
