Appointment of accounting technology veteran Brian Austin to newly-created role signals significant outreach efforts to accountants in public and private practice
Bainbridge Island, WA – September 09, 2011 – Avalara (www.avalara.com), North America’s leading provider of automated, up-to-date sales and use tax compliance solutions, today announced the appointment of Brian Austin as Director, Accountant and Industry Relations. Austin brings 15 years of accounting-focused press and analyst relations experience to the newly-created position, which also signals a concerted, long-term push into the accounting practitioner community.
Austin most recently held Director-level public relations positions at SpeedTax, a provider of automated sales and use tax solutions recently acquired by CCH, and at Sage Software. He also co-founded the CloudSolutions Alliance, a CPA-focused educational collaborative comprised of Cloud, SaaS and paperless solution providers.
In this newly-created role, Austin will oversee Avalara’s outreach efforts to accountants in public practice and industry, and will work closely with industry organizations such as AICPA and state CPA societies to inform and educate accounting professionals about the role of technology in solving clients’ sales tax issues. In addition, Austin will also identify partnering opportunities with other accountant-facing Cloud and SaaS solution providers to demonstrate the value of tightly-integrated solution suites for streamlined firm operations and improved client service.
“Today’s announcement is the first of many for Avalara regarding a significant commitment of time, resources, cumulative knowledge and experience, and effort aimed at helping accounting professionals solve sales and use tax issues for their valued clients,” said Scott McFarlane, CEO of Avalara. “CPAs, now more than ever, are trusted advisors, and will be expected to play an active role when clients land on their doorstep with questions and needs related to sales and use tax. Brian was our first choice for the task of positioning Avalara as the go-to trusted technology source for any accountant in need of a complete sales tax automation solution.”
“Sales tax compliance and management is now squarely on the radar of CPA firms of all sizes, and they all want to steer their clients to the best possible technology and consulting solutions,” said Jim Bourke, CPA.CITP, and Partner at WithumSmith+Brown, PC. “Avalara is very well-positioned to offer a mature SaaS-based application to accounting professionals, whether it’s outsourced or internally managed. Brian is an excellent choice to lead their outreach efforts during a critical juncture in the profession, with firms struggling to grasp how the various Cloud, SaaS and paperless technologies can be effectively integrated to provide better client service, and help firms grow and prosper.”
