Bulgaria denies VAT refund delays

The Bulgarian government has denied reports that there may be delays in the repayments of Bulgarian VAT refunds or credit.

Companies trading in Bulgaria, or any other EU member state, are entitled to rapid repayments - typically 30 days - of any VAT due, including refunds of credits for businesses with local VAT registrations.

This week, the Finance Ministry stated that scheduled refunds were at their lowest level in over four years.  Indeed, companies which can demonstrate up-to-date ledgers and full compliance with the local accounting rules may receive their refunds within ten days.
