Belgium VAT online betting July 2016
- Jun 4, 2016 | Richard Asquith
Belgium is to make online betting subject to 21% VAT from 1 July 2016.
Under the EU VAT Directive, member states are no obliged to charge VAT on betting or games of chance for cash or prizes. Many countries instead chose to levy betting taxes instead, which enables a wider scope for rates and higher charges.
Under Belgium’s plan, gambling in betting shops or casino and the national lottery will remain exempt.
