Director of Commissions Accounting
The Director of Commission Accounting is a new role with high visibility that will be a key business partner to the Sales Operations and Partner Management teams within the company and will be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation and payment of sales and partner commissions, including the administration of related processes and systems. Sales and partner commissions have been managed separately and this role will build a team to combine these functions and provide comprehensive commissions management to a growing sales organization. Additionally, the Director of Commissions Accounting is responsible for implementing policies and procedures that reduce errors and strengthen internal controls, as well as implementing systems or process changes that improve efficiency. The Director of Commissions Accounting will initially manage a three-person team and reports to the U.S. Controller.
Job DutiesBuild out a commissions accounting team supporting both internal sales operations and external partner management teamsProvide leadership and direction to the commission accounting team responsible for tracking, calculation, and payment of commissions.Strengthen, document, and ensure consistent application of commission policies, procedures, and controlsOversee the administration of Xactly Incent – the system used to manage and calculate sales commissions Serve as the functional owner of the information technology tools (SQL and Power BI) used to produce partner commissionsWork with cross-functional teams to translate bookings activity into sales commissions and ensure commissions are properly calculated and paidImplement quality assurance measures to prevent and detect potential errorsEnsure appropriate reviews of accounting analysis and journal entries and timely completion of other month-end activities related to commission accountingOversee the review of monthly sales and partner commission statements and corresponding back-upProvide reports for sales and partner management leadersRepresent the Finance team in the resolution of commission related issuesDevelop sales and partner commission processes for new products and business activitiesCollaborate with Human Resources and Sales teams on the design of sales compensation plansCollaborate with Partner Management to execute against partner commission plansAssist with budgeting, performance measurement, and other ad hoc analysis related to commissions activitiesPerform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications8+ years of experience in a role with direct responsibility for commission accounting or a company with annual revenues of at least $100 million – experience with SaaS, subscription, or other recurring revenue businesses a plusHands-on experience with at least one major CRM system – preferably Salesforce – and at least one major ERP system – preferably NetSuite. Hands-on experience with Xactly Incent or another sales performance management system a plusThorough understanding of sales compensation practices and procedures – ideally in a high-volume environmentAbility to administer sales compensation plans – ideally in a role with direct responsibility for the preparation of sales commissions.Proven ability to implement quality assurance measures in commission processesFamiliarity with ASC 606 and other applicable accounting standardsProficient using Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications – the ability to develop SQL queries to retrieve data or generate reports a plus.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
Required EducationBachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or a related area – CPA or MBA is highly desirable
