Richard Asquith is VP Global Indirect Tax at Avalara, helping businesses understand their compliance obligations as they grow globally. He is part of the European leadership team which this year won International Tax Review's Tax Technology Firm of the Year. Richard qualified as an accountant with KPMG in the UK, and went on to work in Hungary, Russia and France with EY.
Sam Lowe is a senior research fellow at the Centre for European Reform. He works on trade issues, with a focus on Brexit, customs and regulatory barriers. Prior to joining the CER, he led work on trade, Brexit and environmental issues for Friends of the Earth and is a co-founder of the UK Trade Forum.
Michael Cameron has worked in the Civil Service since 1978, and HM Revenue & Customs since January 1984. Initially in local offices, mainly on accounts compliance but since 1995 in central office working on various programmes including the introduction of Self Assessment, managing the transition to the year 2000 (I2K) and the Carter Programme (SA Online Filing and VAT Online Filing). Michael currently works in an HMRC Transformation role – working with a wide range of Business customers (Software Developers, Business Rep Bodies and Agent Rep bodies) to explain HMRC’s Digital plans and bringing customer insights back into HMRC.
