Local sales and use tax rate changes will take effect in California on October 1, 2018.

District tax rates in the following jurisdictions are increasing. They’re listed with the combined state and local rates:

  • City of Chula Vista (San Diego County): from 8.25% to 8.75%
  • Town of Corte Madera (Marin County): from 8.75% to 9%
  • City of Grass Valley (Nevada County): from 8% to 8.5%
  • City of Huntington Park (Los Angeles County): from 9.5% to 10.25%
  • City of Kingsburg (Fresno County): from 7.975% to 8.975%
  • City of Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz County): from 9% to 9.25%

There may soon be a rate increase in the City of El Segundo (Los Angeles County) as well. Voters have approved a 0.75% district tax, but it will only be implemented if Los Angeles County proposes a new district tax measure. If the change occurs, we’ll update this post.

California sales and use tax is administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA), which reminds taxpayers that sales and use tax rates, rules, and regulations are subject to frequent change.
