Illinois Municipal Tax Rate Changes

Numerous local sales and use tax rate changes took effect in Illinois on July 1, 2018.

The city sales tax rates listed below are organized by county. Please note some cities in Illinois cross over multiple counties. Also, the sales tax rates listed are in effect in the unincorporated parts of the counties and in any municipalities that don’t have a locally imposed sales tax. Finally, tax rates are higher in municipalities that impose a local sales tax of their own.

Along with the city tax rate changes listed below, the following county rate changes also took place.

  • Richland County: Rate increased 1% from 8.75% to 7.75%
  • Woodford County: Rate increased 1% from 7.25% to 8.25%

Like the state sales tax, local sales tax in Illinois does not apply to sales of qualifying food, drugs, and medical appliances, or certain items titled or registered by an agency of the Illinois state government. Additional information is available at the Illinois Department of Revenue.
