Minnesota announces tax relief for victims of September floods
- Dec 13, 2016 | Gail Cole
September brought torrential rains to central and southern Minnesota, causing widespread damage to businesses, homes, and roadways. Although the waters have receded, clean-up efforts will continue for months. As a result, affected taxpayers may struggle to file and pay their Minnesota taxes on time.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue is therefore giving taxpayers in affected areas more time to file and pay. In addition, it will forgive interest and penalties on Minnesota state tax returns or payments due between September 21, 2016 and January 31, 2017. Tax relief is available for taxpayers located in the following counties:
- Anoka
- Blue Earth
- Cottonwood
- Dodge
- Faribault
- Fillmore
- Freeborn
- Goodhue
- Hennepin
- Houston
- Le Sueur
- Mower
- Nicollet
- Olmsted
- Rice
- Scott
- Sibley
- Steele
- Wabasha
- Waseca
- Washington
- Winona
The tax extension and waived interest/penalties only applies to state taxes, not local or federal taxes. Additional information.
