Kenya TIMS VAT e-invoicing 2020

  • Aug 19, 2019 | Richard Asquith

Kenya is progressing towards the launch of electronic invoice clearing in 2020.

The Kenyan Revenue Authority (KRA) is piloting real-time invoice registration and validation terminals at participating tax payers' businesses. Draft invoices must be submitted to a government-supplied terminal for electronic submission to the KRA’s Tax Invoice Management System (TIMS). A unique identification number is returned via TIMS, and must then be included on the sales invoice for issuance to the customer.

It is expected that a Ksh 5million turnover threshold per month will be put in place for smaller businesses. The TIMS may be incorporated into electronic cash registers or accounting systems.
